The following are some excellent teacher resources to use inside or outside of the classroom. Some of the websites are free to the public, others are commonly purchased by districts for school-wide use.

Brainpopjr (for primary aged students) and www.brainpop.com (for upper elementary students) are a great resource for introducing or solidifying concepts. The characters are funny, engaging, and teach the skill in a very understandable and relatable way. There are quizzes, games, and activities linked to each topic for additional practice.

This is a free website that teaches students to read with phonics. There are four categories including ABCs, Learn to Read, It's Fun to Read, and I'm Reading, for differentiated practice based on the child's current reading ability. There are songs, chants, games and activities to encourage students to learn letter sounds, blending, and comprehension.

Compass Learning is a website designed for differentiated activities in all subject areas. Teachers can tailor each lesson to include specific skills or strategies that individual students need to work on. Students then log on and can access activities at their level. Assessments are also included on the site to show growth.

Headsprout is a reading program which includes "episodes" to complete by students. Every student starts at episode one, and travels all the way to episode 80. It begins with simple letter sounds and progresses to small chapter books. This site is especially helpful to students learning how to read. The characters require students to repeat words or phrases as they go, for additional reading practice.
