Internship Courses

TE 801 - Professional Roles & Teaching Practice I - Professor Kathy Moon - Fall 2006
This was the first class we took during my MSU internship. This course concentrated on the importance of teachers professional and ethical responsibilities. We were encouraged to participate in our internship school’s community. This course focused specifically on math, and required me to design and teach math lessons that would reach a variety of learners and promote hands-on learning.

TE 802 - Reflection & Inquiry in Teaching Practice I - Professor Kathy Moon - Fall 2006
This class was also taken during the Fall semester of my internship year. This course focused on designing and evaluating different studies of teaching practices. This research based class also looked at educational problems within the classroom and community. This course concentrated on literacy instruction and required participants to create a literacy unit that included reading, writing, listening and speaking.

TE 803 - Professional Roles & Teaching Practice II - Professor Renee Wohl - Spring 2007
This course was taken during the Spring semester in the internship year. During this course we focused on different strategies for working with families and community groups to support student learning and growth. We were instructed on best practices to improve responsiveness of the school curriculum to foster student growth and learning. This course focused specifically on social studies instruction and participants were asked to create a meaningful social studies unit that linked literacy standards.

TE 804 - Reflection & Inquiry in Teaching Practice II - Professor J. Gabrys - Spring 2007
This course was also taken during the Spring semester in the internship year. This class involved investigating critical issues that educators face today through the collection and analysis of data. TE 804 was also centered around science instruction and we were asked to create an inquiry based unit.

ED 800 Concepts of Educational Inquiry – Dr. Stephen Weiland - Spring 2010
This was an introductory course for the MAED program. This course focused on the history and philosophies of education and well as our interactions with the many forms of educational inquiry.

ED 870 Capstone Seminar – Dr. Matthew Koehler - Spring 2011
This course focused on creating a web portfolio, as well as reflecting on our Master’s coursework throughout the program. ED 870 also asked us to think about our futures as educators.

Elective Courses

CEP 842 Instruction in Inclusive Classrooms – Professor Cynthia Okolo - Fall 2010 
In this course we examined how to design instruction that is sensitive to individual needs. Specifically, we deepened our knowledge of differenciated instruction, Universal Design for Learning, collaboration, and co-teaching.

TE 891 Teaching Across Cultural Differences in Schools – Professor Dorinda Carter - Summer 2010
In this course we discovered different approaches to teaching multicultural education.  We practiced critical analysis as we explored different pedagogies for educating culturally diverse students from various backgrounds.

TE 842 Advanced Methods of Elementary School Reading – Professor Nicole Martin- Summer 2010 
In this course we deepened our expertise of elementary reading instruction and transitioned our new knowledge into tangible improvements within our practice.

TE 846 Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners – Dr. Gary Troia- Summer 2010
This course focused on meeting the needs of diverse learners in the classroom, specifically struggling readers and writers. Participants learn about the instruction and remediation in reading and writing, classroom assessment techniques for reading and writing, and materials and adaptations for reading and writing instruction.

TE 849 Methods and Materials for Teaching Children and Adolescent Literature - Professor Laura Jimenez– Spring 2011
This course focused on genres of children and adolescent literature in addition to ongoing and contemporary issues related to literacy. We explored the kinds of conversations that encompass children’s literature and discovered new and compelling ways of incorporating literacy into the classroom.
